Rajh Tara was born to a merchant family and had a fairly uneventful childhood. Because of their position in the guild, his mother, Devi Nageswa Tara, and his father, Ravin Tara, traveled a lot, leaving him to spend a lot of time with his uncle, Rajesh Nageswa. Rajesh would often tell Rajh tales of the Blazing Trail and the Red Guard. The promise of adventure left Rajh determined to join the ranks of the Red Guard, ignoring the disapproval of his parents.

During his time serving in the Red Guard, Rajh received a letter from his uncle informing of an attack on his home, Qalyat, by the Tau. Though the city had been taken, his uncle and mother were fine, but his father had gone missing. Arwa, the leader of the Blazing Trail, called for the Red Guard to split off and help on the frontlines. Rajh volunteered to join a guerrilla task force and hopingly to reunite with his family.
